HAVANA , Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) Wednesday denied contacting representatives of professional Mexican baseball club Caneros de Los Monchis, who are reportedly in Cuba to scout local talent.
""We have not had any contact with agents from any professional team,"" said FCB President Higinio Velez, according to state news agency Prensa Latina. ' A few days ago , some news agencies reported the arrival of managers from the Caneros, one of Mexico's Pacific League teams, to ""watch"" Cuban players for the 2013-2014 season in Mexico.
In July, the Cuban government allowed three Cuban baseball players to play for a professional foreign club for the first time in about 50 years.
Following the 1959 socialist revolution in Cuba , the government banned professional sports, but it has relaxed those rules lately as it moves to modernize its economy and stem the tide of athletes defecting to play abroad.
