From a distance, “Sleeve House” looks like the farmhouse equivalent of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. And while this Japanese black wood (Shou Sugi Ban) house may be at a tilt, there’s more to it than its slanted shape.
The brainchild of actual/office architects, Sleeve House was inspired by its pastoral settings and the surrounding farmhouse architecture. The latter became a favorite model for architects to tinker with and to modernize.
Sleeve House is a prime example of how something old can get revamped in a new and unique way. With its black wood exterior and interior, sloping phi sod, and minimalist interior, the Hudson Valley-based home is an interesting amalgam of country living and modern architecture.
