(AP) — Bryce Harper finally got his first spring training hit with the Philadelphia Phillies after a 0-for-9 start.The slugger lined a 97-mph fastball to center on a 2-1 pitch from Detroit Tigers right-hander Spencer Turnbull in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s game. He jokingly gestured toward the dugout that he wanted to keep the ball.It was Harper’s 16th plate appearance over six exhibition games. Turnbull struck him out swinging in the first.In his final at-bat, Harper walked against Reed Garrett to lead off the seventh. You could see with just a little bit better timing that ball is in the seats in left field. So, a lot to get excited about there with Bryce.”Harper played seven innings in right field.Kapler plans to hit Harper third regularly during the regular season.“Right now I’m happy with Harper in the three-hole because I think it makes him feel most confident,” Kapler said. “For me, that trumps anything.”Harper agreed to a $330 million , 13-year contract in late February, almost two weeks after spring training began. The stocky lefty struggled with his control during MLB stints in 2017 and 2018."The Marlins designated DillonPeters for assignment on Tuesday and didn’t waste any of the seven days allotted for them to trade or release him. On Wednesday, they sent the 26-year-old pitcher to the Angels for minor-league hurler TylerStevens. Peters entered 2018 as the Miami’s 11th-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America, but became expendable as he did not make the Marlins’ 40-man roster. Since debuting in 2017, the southpaw appeared in 13 games for the Fish, 11 of them starts , going 3-4 with a 6.10 ERA.Since the Angels took Stevens in the 18th round of the 2017 draft, he rapidly ascended from rookie ball to AAA Salt Lake, where he struggled mightily, turning in a 10.93 ERA in 28 innings. One look at his peripherals, though, and the potential is evident. The 22-year-old had a 4.67 xFIP and a 4.04 FIP, striking out almost 12 batters per nine innings (11.57 K/9). They have several significant rotation candidates trying to recuperate from elbow issues, so he could take advantage of any setbacks.
