The beach umbrella is definitely a part of the theme, even though I am not so crazy about , entire. Last year saw a strange-looking graffiti-covered umbrella with some true personality, and the season before that watched my favorite so far, and not simply because it's the only one I have: a red paper parasol with dragon detail.
Thus far, Season 5 is slightly tough to pin down, much like Fortnite itself. Most people assumed it'd be time travel, and I'm disinclined to come out and state that it isn't time travel. But it's clearly a whole lot of other stuff too: the two big new regions are kind of summertime fun themed, using a bit of California going on. The beach umbrella is unquestionably a part of that narrative, I would argue.
Season 5 launched this afternoon, bringing with it a new battle pass plus a package of changes both small and large. Developer Epic Games just announced it would be taking down servers to matchmaking and login problems that was cropping up over the course of the evening. As usual, there's no word on bandwidth, however you can keep track of the status here.
It's a big setback for a day which was going fairly well for Epic Games, even though some server problems over at PlayStation Network have been giving PS4 users some issues. It doesn't seem to be a terrific day on the technical side of things overall.
Fortnite has had some intermittent technical problems recently, most especially some matchmaking problems that caused the developer to delay the much-anticipated Playground style for a week. But it's been a while since it saw prolonged unplanned downtime, so we expect that that isn't what we are considering here.
